Background on HCG

The HCG diet is so great is because it helps people get amazing results and reach their weight loss goals faster and then goes further in helping them maintain that weight. Dr. Simeons spent 40 years researching his protocol and studying how the hypothalamus works in regards to weight. Please read and reread his document, Pounds and Inches, for further explanation of his research (a link to this document is found on right side of the page under important documents to read). HCG helps you maintain your set weight by retraining your hypothalamus. Most weight loss protocols can be successful in helping you lose weight, but as often seen with fad yo-yo diets, they don’t help in maintaining that weight and people often gain back the lost weight and more. Here is where Dr. Simeon’s Protocol is different if you follow it closely.

So how does HCG work? HCG does not cause weight loss, rather eating a very restricted caloric intake causes weight loss. On this diet, you consume a very restricted calorie intake of 500 calories a day. Remember: eat less calories than you use=weight loss. Normally if we eat 500 calories a day, we get very hungry and often go into starvation mode where your body uses muscle or tissue for energy instead of fat. The HCG helps you utilize your fat stores for energy instead of muscle. So even though you are only eating 500 calories, your stored fat is contributing the rest of the calories your body needs to function without going into starvation mode (one pound of fat equals 3,500 calories). Most people don’t feel hungry and actually feel good and energized on the diet most of the time.

Once you reach your weight loss goals, if you don’t follow the protocol for maintenance and you go back to your old habits, you’ll certainly regain the weight!! No amount of weight loss can compensate for poor habits. For optimal success you have to work hard to maintain your weight loss and retrain your hypothalamus to that set point. I also believe that you can be thin but not fit and would encourage people to make positive lifestyle changes that incorporated a regular exercise program and a healthy diet full of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and a limited amount of sugar and processed or simple starch intake.

If you stick with it, it works!! You can do anything for 26 days and the results are so worth it!! If you think you can’t live on 500 calories, I promise you, you can. Your body is using the 500 calories you are eating, plus all the calories that are being utilized from the fat.
